She and He

She had another rough day, feeling lost in life and not sure which direction she should go. She hated that feeling because early in life she was taught to always be in control and this indecission made her feel weak. For her, weakness was not an option.

He was a quiet observer in her life. He seem to see the heart of her within moments of them coming together. Often times, he saw her struggles and understood them better than her. She was moved by that and had deep respect for him. What he got out of it, she never knew.

He called just to check in and see what she was up to. He could hear the stress in her voice, even though she did her best to mask it. He suggested that he stop by, pick her up and they go for a drive. She agreed.

He stopped the car long enough for her to get in, then drove to the end of her street. He turned to look at her and she tried to respond with a smile. It didn't fool him.

"Do you want to talk about it?"

"I'm not sure what to say."

"Well, when you think of something, let me know."

He drove off and she stared out the window, lost in her own melancholy thoughts. Time passed and she realized she had no idea where they were. She knew that he was fimilar with all the back roads. Among many things, he was hunter at heart. He knew she enjoyed the woods. She found peace in the stillness of the trees and joy in the sounds of their inhabitants.

"Where are we going?"

"Just wait. We are almost there."

He turned onto an old gravel road. Nothing was visable as the trees and ferns had crowded the path. The road ended and she realized they were driving in a field. The overgrowth ended and when they stopped she looked around.

A tear came to her eye. They were surrounded by a huge field of spring daffodiles. It was yellow, white and green, everywhere she looked. He turned off the motor and they both got out of the car. He sat on the hood of the vechile, arms folded across his chest. She stood by the car door and mouthed the words "Thank you."

He shrugged his shoulders and gave her a wink. She turned around and started exploring the field. She became lost in herself and the place. Occassionally she bent down to pick a flower, mostly she walked. Eventually, she found herself in the middle of the field, looking around, noticing she was surrounded by trees. Off in the distance she saw the car, with him still sitting there. Finally, she felt safe, and let down her guard.

When the rage and pain left; she dried her tears and turned back towards the car.
